Greetings Brothers, Community Partners, and Friends:
Welcome to the virtual home of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter, located in Southwest, Washington, DC. For more than 115 years, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has transformed the arc of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.
According to Jewel Henry Arthur Callis at the 1939 Founder’s Address, NY Convention:
For Alpha Phi Alpha, this awareness of our opportunity should mean a vigorous criticism of our conceptions and an examination of our procedures. We need wisely to appraise our times, to be responsive to contemporary thought; to bear the burden of a disadvantaged people; to stand firmly upon character and principle, making no sacrifice for some temporary good. In Alpha Phi Alpha, there is the background for the ideas, visions, and plans for a New Order.
Eighty three years later, Jewel Callis’s powerful quote still has significance. As we enter our 37th year as a Chapter, I look forward to “Empowering the Brotherhood to ACT: Advocate. Connect. Thrive.”
Since 1985, the Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter has adopted the Southwest quadrant of Washington, DC as our priority area and has developed a partnership with Friends of Southwest to host our annual Community Day and Summit for all residents. In conjunction with the Omicron Eta Lambda Charitable Foundation, the Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter has also awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to DC high school students with a high academic achievement and a substantial commitment to community service.
This year, we will continue to Advocate for our communities through service and mobilization; Connect with Chapter Brothers and community members with intentional support, quality time, and social engagement/interaction; and Thrive as a Chapter in the nation’s capital and the MAAC, positioning the Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter as the one to emulate.
The Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter is also committed to our National Programs, as we promote A Voteless People, Is a Hopeless People throughout the Metropolitan DC area and A+ Achievers Program / Go to High School, Go to College. We also align our local efforts with community partners who help to fill in some gaps such as March of Dimes, Food & Friends, and So Others May Eat (SOME).
As you peruse our website, please explore with the history of the Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter in mind. If you are a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and in search of a Chapter that values advocacy, service, and a commitment to excellence, we invite you to one of our events or Chapter meetings.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Bro. Preston D. Mitchum, Esq., LL.M.
